Secure Governed Engineering for complex operational systems.

Six years in production, and counting
Cognita serves complex enterprises, federal and civilian agencies, and regulated environments where quality, security, governance, and reliability are not optional: fragmented platforms, legacy dependencies, sensitive data, compliance expectations, and production workloads that cannot afford careless change. We bring secure engineering, traceable execution, and evidence-based operations to systems that must stay clear, maintainable, and auditable under real conditions. We integrate and automate across every layer of the enterprise stack, and when the work calls for it we build the entire system end to end, proprietary to you.
Our longest engagement
Delivered
For six years our team has run the cloud platform behind a civilian federal agency's mission-critical financial system in production: the self-service catalog, the automation and the disaster-recovery tooling its application teams depend on, under the agency's change control.
Value
Recovery is rehearsed, not assumed: the platform fails over to a second AWS region and back across six application tenants, and its automated rebuild stands the platform up there in 24 minutes. It stays on current releases, and audit evidence produces itself.
The fit
| The risk you carry | How we make the system hold | The services delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Third-party risk under control | Every change we make is coded, tested, gated, and recorded, so you know what the system does and who approved it. | Production Engineering: Governed by DesignSystems Validation: Simulation and Evidence |
| No concentration risk, nothing you cannot leave | One control plane over VMware, Nutanix, bare metal, and the public clouds, with automation that moves with you: change platforms without rewriting the business. | Hybrid Cloud: Self-Service OrchestrationDevSecOps: Built for the Operational Edge |
| Operational resilience that holds | Zero-trust segmentation, least privilege, and identity controls contain the incident; critical services keep running; recovery is managed and approved by a human. | Zero-Trust Micro-SegmentationModern Cybersecurity: Zero Trust to Quantum |
| Hybrid compute you control | Self-service provisioning in minutes, cost you can see, disaster recovery you can rehearse, and models running on infrastructure you control. | Production Engineering: Governed by DesignHybrid Cloud: Self-Service Orchestration |

A self-service platform that builds a new store's servers from one order (domain controller, file replication, web, certificates, retail applications and databases) and now builds the headquarters servers the same way, live in production.
Value
Opening a store no longer waits on hand-built servers: every build is automated, tested and documented, and a full store is torn down and rebuilt unattended to prove it still works. The retailer's own team runs it.

Production systems, not pilots.
The private infrastructure, the control plane, and the guardrails that let autonomous systems act on metal you own, in colo, or in your cloud: machine learning architecture, scalable model deployment, data pipeline optimization, MLOps and LLMOps across hybrid and multi-cloud environments; private model serving and open-weight models; foundational model integration and custom language-model solutions embedded in mission-critical workflows; guardrails for prompt injection, data leakage, and drift; an authority model in which the system can only ever narrow its own exposure; audit-ready evidence built to the frameworks your regulators expect.
It reaches production in weeks because the governance is in the build, not audited after it, and because we have already built one: Sentinel.
The metal, and the control plane: the one place your platforms are run from.
Hybrid and multi-cloud environments built for efficiency and scale, with infrastructure as code and self-service orchestration: VMware exit onto Nutanix, Hyper-V, OpenShift, or Kubernetes; cloud-management platform architecture and custom plugin development; self-service catalogs with real-time cost estimation; bidirectional ServiceNow integration; one-click DEV→PROD migration; applications scaled through automated provisioning and workload balancing.
Whole estates move in weeks. Every move is safe to re-run and evidenced, and the estate never depends on a single provider it cannot leave.
Segmentation as a delivered production program, not a policy document.
Application discovery and dependency mapping; least-privilege policy design; base-policy architecture for shared platform services; phased enforcement; agent-fleet lifecycle; evidence-backed access reviews that narrow estate-wide access to named hosts, with the full policy lifecycle automated over the platform's API.
An estate-wide access review compressed into weeks, every narrowing evidenced from real traffic before it is enforced.

Self-service on the company's private cloud platform: Oracle and SQL Server database items and standard Windows and Linux servers, tested and promoted to production, with the platform's test environment, quota policies and server retirement written as code.
Value
Teams order databases and servers themselves from a catalog that reaches production through code review, not by hand, and when a server is retired its configuration record retires with it.

Built for rapid, resilient deployments in disconnected, contested, and zero-trust environments.
Hardened, reusable GitLab and Terraform toolkits; pre-integrated zero trust with an mTLS service mesh; modular CI/CD; air-gapped automation with immutable, signed build artifacts and SLSA provenance; compliance as code with SBOM generation and OpenSCAP enforcement; native support for model-based systems engineering and interface verification with stacks such as MOOS-IvP, DDS, and ROS; vendor-agnostic portability across autonomy platforms, down to low-bandwidth and air-gapped sites. Built to SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI DSS, NIS2, DORA, and FedRAMP.
Teams ship faster because the controls are already in the toolkit.
The perimeter-based security model is obsolete.
Multi-layered security for legacy and cloud-native estates: zero-trust architecture to NIST SP 800-207 and the CISA maturity model, continuously validating every user, device, and application inside or outside the network perimeter; quantum-resistant cryptography on FIPS 203, 204, and 205; identity, privilege, and access management across hybrid environments, aligned to NIS2 and DORA.
Security designed into the platform runs at the platform's speed; security added afterwards runs at the speed of the ticket queue.
Validation that runs in the pipeline runs on every change, not once before release.
Software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop continuous integration for autonomy stacks in commercial robotics, medical devices, rail, energy, industrial automation, automotive, and maritime, embedding ROS, Gazebo, and MOOS-IvP directly into DevSecOps pipelines; automated interface verification and testing; interface control documents validated against executable models; model-based systems engineering compliance.
Integration risk falls and deployment timelines shorten because the evidence exists before the release does.

A self-service virtual-machine platform wired to the customer's service desk, virtualization, network monitoring, directory and DNS, so a request becomes a priced, named, tagged, networked and ticketed machine, and later a cleanly retired one, with no manual steps; plus executive cost reporting by business unit, portfolio and application.
Value
Requesters see the true monthly price before they order, executives see spend by P&L for chargeback, and every teardown returns its network address and clears its records. The customer's own engineers now run and extend it.
How we engage
Principal Automation Architects who are SMEs and consultants, twenty years and up: the people who scope the work build it. Not staff augmentation. Not interchangeable seats. Two choices: the work, and who holds the contract.
The work
The contract
Thirty minutes with whoever owns the system that has not shipped. Bring the problem; we will bring an architect.

We took over an undocumented Yocto embedded Linux build for a space-systems product, got it building and booting reliably on real hardware and in emulation, and added secure over-the-air updates with integrity-checked file systems and a signed bootloader, built and tested by an automated pipeline.
Value
The product builds from documented code instead of knowledge held by former developers, devices take verified updates in the field, testing no longer waits for a physical board, and the customer showed the product at its industry conference on our build.
